Wales Expedition

2005 Pembrokeshire

Strong tides and exposure to the prevailing North Atlantic swell make Pembrokeshire one of the best places to go for rough water training. This will be the main emphasis of this expedition, allowing paddlers of BCU 4 star standard and above to hone their skills in more demanding conditions. We will have the opportunity to experience some of the largest paddled tidal races in the world and surf onto sandy beaches. While exploring rocks and caves at the foot of giant cliffs, paddle the swells around arches and play in the surf. Top paddlers from around the world rate this as one of their favourite venues.

As well as guaranteed rough water paddling experience, this area has much to offer. While rough water is available for play, calmer paddling trips are possible due to the different aspects of shoreline. You can get close to important colonies of sea birds and mammals or get a unique view of some of the planet's most spectacular cliff scenery. On land, explore Celtic culture ancient and modern, hike the mountain and cliff paths, visit areas of outstanding natural beauty and sites of special scientific importance. At the end of the day, you can relax at our traditional cottage or enjoy a delicious meal at a local pub or restaurant. This area has so much to offer we are encouraging you to share this vacation with non-paddling friends and significant others.

Staffing ratio will be maximum 4-1, staff will be BCU level 5 coaches with many years of experience personal paddling and leading others in this area. We expect people joining this trip will want to bring their own personal equipment (excluding kayak) but we may be able to help out with some items. Accommodation will be comfortable self-catering cottages with easy options of eating in or dining out. The cost of the trip includes instruction, high quality sea kayaks, accommodation and local transportation.

Pembrokeshire is one of my favourite areas and I am always happy to talk about it. Please contact me for more details.
